Every homeowners desire is to have the best looking yard in town.  Unfortunately this is not always an easy task to accomplish.  It is our intention at Wright Turf Farms to assist you in achieving this goal.  There are different methods available in establishing this "show case" lawn.  We offer four options to help fit your needs and budget.  Regardless of the method best suited to your needs.  Wright Turf Farms pledges to assist you in obtaining the results every homeowner desires.

Listed below are the grassing systems that we offer.  For your benefit, we have listed them in order of prominence.

Sodding ----- Plugging ----- Sprigging ----- Seeding

Sodding

Sodding stands at the head of the class.  No current grassing method provides the benefits obtained by the proper installation of quality sod.  Sodding is the only way to go from bare soil to lush green nature's carpet in a matter of hours.

The only possible disadvantage there may be to sodding is cost.  This of course is determined on an individual basis.  For those homeowners who prefer a smaller investment, we offer other methods that may be more suited to their needs.  Please consider some of the advantages of sodding listed below.

  • Immediate coverage (no waiting/no erosion/no mud)

  • Less water required for establishment

  • Functional, recreational & Aesthetic

  • Immediate increase in property value

Plugging

This is our second choice for lawn establishment.  This method offers a more economical approach than does sodding.  Plugging is accomplished by hand planting 2" plugs, in rows at 12" - 16" intervals.  Establishment and coverage is obviously slower, but plugging does offer a feasible alternative to sodding.

If properly planted and maintained plugging should provide good ground cover in 100-150 days.

Sprigging

By sprigging, we are referring to the mechanical broadcasting of grass sprigs over an area and pressing them into the soil by means of rolling disc.  This method is more suitable for larger areas where hand plugging is not practical.

Seeding

It is our opinion that seeding is the least attractive method of lawn establishment.  Although seeding is less expensive initially, we feel that in the long run it offers no economic advantages.

Listed are some disadvantages of seeding:

  • Slow ground cover

  • Aesthetically displeasing

  • Severe weed pressure

  • Mud & erosion
